Resolved [RESOLVED] New PC laptop how to turn off Norton??

New HP Pavillion laptop (windows 7 home ed) out of the box and fired up- followed all install instructions., but said NO to Norton and used Microsoft Essentials instead ., Of course we have the little icon o nthe task bar that loves to jump up and remind us to install .. Now or later always hit Later ..

So I go into msconfig and turn off Norton as well as Symantics but still have this nasty little avatar on the task bar.. I can right click turn off but it still shows up later..

How do we turn that off??

like is Norton and Microsoft that hand in hand companions???

I'm surprised Microsoft Essentials ( now up and fully operational) doesn't tell Norton to Buzz off...

Synaptics is for your touchpad. Symantec is Norton. Make sure you didn't check off the wrong one.

Why don't you just uninstall Norton if you don't plan on using it?

Thanks I may use this .. I never actually started up Norton from the git go so didn't think I had to actually uninstall thru that website .. I knew right after I click on English when I started up the new PC that Norton was not going to be part of my scenario...

Is it the Action Centre that is popping up the message?

I dunno about ' action Center' .. ? but it is a Norton page that comes up to ask if I want to install the virus program now or later .. I keep hitting Later and it hides i nthe task bar to jump up at various stages of the day ..

Anyway I have since used the web site givne above to remove al lof Norton which I have done so.. , AND SO FAR SO GOOD..
