Microwave makes wireless connection drop
My wife uses her work issued laptop and her personal laptop at our dinning room table which is near the kitchen. When someone starts the microwave 8 times out of 10 it will cause the wireless connection to drop. The work issued laptop is an IBM thinkpad and her personal laptop is an MSI.
Moving the laptops or the microwave to a different location is not an option in the near term. Of course not using the microwave is an option but it can be inconvenient.
I wonder how it is that the microwave can cause this to happen? And is there a solution that would work besides moving the laptops or not using the microwave? Maybe a tin foil hat for the laptops?
The wireless network uses a Verizon actiontec router with fios.
Thanks

Not unusual.
If applicable,
Change location of router and/or change channel on the router.
Cheers.

Most RF interference is in the 2.4 GHz band (802.11b/g). Microwave ovens, 2.4 GHz cordless phones, Bluetooth enabled devices, FHSS wireless LANs, and neighboring wireless LANs can all interfere with a 2.4 GHz wireless LAN. One solution is to switch to a 5GHz wireless LAN (802.11a or 802.11n).
How to: Minimize 802.11 Interference Issues
