file sharing or not?
I have file sharing turned off but this printer shows up on, and the attached photo, shows it file sharing unless it is password protected as i read it is this the way it should be?

When password protection is on, only people who have a user account and password on this computer can access shared files, printers attached to this computer, and the Public folder.

There really isn't a "should be", it's more of a matter of how much you want to trade security for convenience. Obviously having password protected sharing is more secure, but it can soon get very tiresome having to constantly type in a p/w. Personally I have p/w protected sharing turned off.

So the way this is set up now, with the printer being shared, that was never my intent, or the public folder, what security risk is exposed?

Control Panel->Printers->Right click on your Printer and select SHARING. Is "Share this Printer" selected? If so - uncheck it
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

It is not checked
it says while computer sleeps it will be protected, "so while online"?
under security there was "EVERYONE", I removed that, left it just for me?
me= the name on the pc
now i have to remember how to check the system management to see what it shows

Do you have a local area network with other users on it? Because the only reason to protect a printer is to stop local users being able to print (children for example). The chances of anyone hacking onto your PC and then printing something out is pretty remote, so you really don't need to worry about online threats here

Not yet i do not have , but will soon havve a network once i get the other pc and router setup, but the sharing and public folder spooked me especially when it said " no threat when it was sleeping", how ever i did delete everyone, so will see what happens when i put it to use.

If nothing is in the public folder, then it will not be shared. So keep it empty.

Yep!
So they will see a empty folder, but with nothing in there they can get.
