Changing motherboard
Here's what I'd like to do: Change out the motherboard in my present computer with a new and more powerful one. Also change the CPU to a dual core AMD. Stuff as much RAM as possible on the new motherboard. Install a new video card. But, try to use my existing hard drives(eide)and my Trois Hard drive selector switch. Reason for all of this: the old motherboard is getting along in years and just doesn't seem to have the power necessary to run Windows 7 Home Premium as well as I would like. I have Win7 installed and running OK but having trouble editing video or doing any multi-tasking. My current board is an Gigabyte GA-7VAXP with 2 GB RAM installed on it. The front side bus has a max of 333, and the CPU is a AMD Simpron 3000+ running at a reported 1.2 gHZ? I've upgraded this box several times, but hate to loose my Trois HD selector switch(the switches are no longer made) by changing to SATA hard drives. Any thoughts on all of this? Thanks.

Have you found a newer mobo with IDE drive connectors?
And do your homework...I'm not sure Win7 has a Repair Install option to help out with the swap.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

PS - what does the Trois Hard drive selector switch?
Does it allow you to select which drive to boot off of....Like a SATA mobo will?

Thanks for the replies. The Trois switch allows me to run 3 separate hard drive. (not at once ) I have: Windows 7 Home Pre, Windows XP pro and Ubuntu Linux installed, each on their own drive. I like this set up and would like to keep it, if possible.
I didn't know that you can select a drive to boot to with SATA drives. That's interesting.
One other thought, Two of the installed eide drives are fairly new. I would like to get more use out of them if I can.

ATA133 PCI card will give you up to 4 more IDE devices.
Or go this route.

Should plug into the Trois.

That's a good find Train. That looks promising.

I think this cpu should be running at 2.0gHZ
Do you really want to strip out the mobo and cpu and stuff them in a box? A Second pc could come in handy.

Sounds like the bios is only set to 100mhz instead of 166.

Good idea Midknyte, I'll check the BIOS on the next boot. Right now I've got to start moving snow. We're getting 14 inches of the stuff today. We got 8-10 last night, got to get that cleared out before the next blast comes in. It's also cold as heck with a strong wind blowing this morning. North country winters, you gotta love them.
