Problems burning DVDs
hi folks,
So I've got my files lined up in the burn queue, I place a brand new "Verbatim" DVD in the tray and close it, my computer reads the dvd and discovers it is blank and has 4489 mb of space, so I click burn.
After a few seconds of whirring noises and initializing, the CD pops out and I get the usual message telling me that I have successfully burnt 17 files to the disk.........except I haven't.
There was no indication of the % of recording that is in progress as would be normal and it was all over much too quickly.
There is nothing on the disk.
The same thing happens when I try another computer which would suggest the disk is at fault, but this has happened with the last lot of disks I got from the market at 15 euros and with a new batch I got from a legit computer shop at the extortionate price of €22.50.
I've also tried downloading another DVD burning programme but that didn't work either.
Anybody got any suggestions?

What Operating System and what program are you using to burn with?
You also might try cleaning your dvdrw with a cd/dvd lens cleaner.

Sorry, I was thinking to mention the programme as I was writing but it seems I got distracted.
I'm using Windows Vista and the burning programme is divX player.

Just a question., what speeds are you burning and what format?

.AVI normally and burn at 12X.
16X usually makes a coaster.
Now when I am dealing with VOBs I use Nero or NTI.

Hi folks, thanks for your replies.
Cleaning the lens has not helped. The computer is reading the disk and finding it blank so I suspect a dirty lens is not the problem.
What bugs me is that my other computer won't record on these disks either which would seem to suggest that the problem is with the disk.
As I said before, these are brand new disks from a reputable computer shop.
Do other users sometimes find that a whole batch of disks just don't work??
Anyone else had these problems with Verbatim disks?

Verbatim is a good brand for me.
Imation and memorex give me all kinds of coasters.
Use the Nero InfoTool and find who made the disk.
http://majorgeeks.com/Nero_InfoTool_d120.html
On the disk tab there will be a code for the maker, google that code and you should be able to find out who made the disk.

There are certain speeds for different burning formats, if you have followed all those steps, reduce the speed, do not overload the disc,,if you can specify all the methods you are using or attemting to use, does your burner specify what speed of disc and + or-, certain discs do not work.

Ditto.
Keep in mind, that no matter how good the brand/model is,
They can be damaged during shipping. Heat, direct light, moisture...
Cheers.
