Win7 Firewall
Hiya
Normally I don't bother with windows firewall and install some third party proggie. However, I want to give this a whirl if I can get it to do what I want. My main concern is outbound since I sit behind a router that already provides a certain ammount of protection. With that and windows firewall, I think I am OK......except outbound. I despise proggies calling home and I usually have my past firewalls (Zonealarm, Sygate, Comodo) stop it. Can I get windows firewall to be selective about outbound traffic?
I know there is a rule section.....but don't have a clue how to configure. Especially since I don't know which ones call home. I am hoping that I can get the firewall to do what others do....which is ask me every time something wants to get out and I can say yes or no on permanent basis.
If this is better placed in the security forum.....mods, please move me. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I will have to do some reading. One thing I can't stand....a program that is always calling it's mommy.

I struggled to find a 64bit firewall for Windows 7 and ended up with Comodo, but there are so many pop ups it drives me mad, especially when I'm installing something. So, my question is, is Windows 7 with the extra 'bits' as good? Safe? Easy to use?
Thanks, and sorry for butting in on another thread...

Obviously I can't help with win7 firewall....but I did have Comodo installed an XP system. Not sure what it is like now, but assuming it is similiar there are a couple things you can do to knock off the constant warnings. Comodo has an "installation mode". You use this when installing something. You will still get a few warnings, but not the couple dozen you will get without using it. Look for it on a right-click menu on the Comodo icon in the tray. Also....the old Comodo actually had two systems. One for firewall and another it called Defense system or something. I got annoyed with Comodo getting involved in everything and turned off the Defense system and just left the firewall on. I have other things to watch my files. As a firewall, I liked Comodo....but it got way to invasive for my taste. That's why I am looking at windows firewall this time.
