    hdd has 40 bad sectors - is it still usable ?

    My USB external HDD has about 40 bad sectors. Its total usable capacity is about 372 GB. I already have got a RMA issued but don't know if they will replace the hdd or just mark off those bad sectors. If the latter is the case, I can myself do it with software like hdd regenerator.

    So, 40 bad sectors and 6 delays would constitute how many megs on my hdd ?
    I don't know how to figure that. Should I send it back for RMA. It's Cavalry Storage make and hdd is Seagate Barracuda.

    I wouldn't trust my data on the drive. Once you get bad sectors, they will spread like cancer. Replace it.

    Definitely RMA. In fact the drive is probably worse than you realise, because all drives have some bad sectors, and they are normally silently replaced with spare sectors that are set aside during manufacture for just that purpose. If it's starting to report bad sectors, it probably means that all the spare sectors have been used up.
