    Hacker issues

My fiance is being harrassed online by an unknown person. When she signs on to her paid AOL account and opens AIM this person attempt to chat with her.

A few things stand out as very very odd. First, she always logs on "invisible." Yet this person always knows when she is logged on to AIM. Second, this person's screename (trbl2u...I believe) is not an actual member of AOL. She called AOL to report this person, and two people there told her they have no record of that screename being in use.

    How is this possible?

And how do you think we should handle this problem?

This has happened before. Difference is that back then the person's screename didn't even appear! She brought her laptop to a service professional and they did a clean install of XP. She has been very careful not to open emails from people she doesn't trust.

    Please help?

    Thank you.

First thing I would do is a complete scan to make sure she isn't infected with any malware/trojans. If someone is able to see what she's doing via an installed trojan then invisible mode or not that person would be aware of her presence in aim. Have her do the following scans..

I'd also suggest switching messaging clients to Trillian. It's more secure than the rest and there's a free version available. http://www.trillian.im/ It's Aim compatible.

    Print these instructions out.

NOTE. If any of the programs listed below refuse to run, try renaming executive file to something else; for instance, rename hijackthis.exe to scanner4.exe

    1. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
    http://www.superantispyware.com/

    * Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
    * An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
    * If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.)
    * Close SUPERAntiSpyware.

    * Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
    * After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click OK.
    * Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click Next.
    * A notification will appear that Quarantine and Removal is Complete. Click OK and then click the Finish button to return to the main menu.
    * If asked if you want to reboot, click Yes.

    Wow

That covers everything! I'll post any problems. Thanks!

After completing that list we will try to find a legal means of uncovering the identity of her intruder.

    Again thanks.
