[RESOLVED] VLC Media Player
I installed VLC media player and none of my video files play. What could be causing this issue?

Is the full version the better choice of the full, standard, and basic versions?

I highly doubt you would need to install codec packs for VLC. What kinds of files are you trying to play?
What OS are you using?

Hi, Midknyte. VLC won't play any type of video file that I have (avi, mpeg) when I click on the actual file but, they will play if I open up VLC and click on open file and select the file from the media tab at top. I use win xp pro.

That's not a problem with VLC. That means you didn't set your file associations, I.E. you need to tell Windows what application to use when opening files.
right click on a file > Open with > Choose a program. Browse for VLC. Check the "Always use the selected program..." box then click OK.

I did do that but, that isn't my problem. It should still play the video file if I right click on the file and select open with and select the vlc player even if it is not set to always open with that player but, it doesn't.

Uninstall and reinstall VLC and see if that fixes the associations. Do a Full or Custom install and make sure the file associations are checked.
You didn't say which version you are running. 1.0.1 is the latest.
