Try posting a test message to another newsgroup. Possibilities for failure are manifold.. from a closed group to a newsgroup provider failure to a local problem. I notice you're connecting via SSL, also try posting a test message via non SSL (secure/encrypted connection) and if your newsgroup provider has a web based interface try that as well.
If you've been able to post a new message in the past then I'd say odds are it's a newsgroup provider failure and will
be resolved within a couple of days.. check to see if the provider has a forum or a bulletin board that posts errors.

desgnr--If the ISP has no newgroups, it sounds like they supply the routing to the newsgroup just like they do for an email.
Do you remember how you set up the newsgroup connection? In Windows Mail, I suspect that is by clicking Tools|Accounts|NewsProperties. Check out Server name on the Server tab. That would be the outfit to contact.

Yeah, I suspect the newsgroup provider that you were using has changed their routing requirements. The most obvious thing would be a new port assignment. If it was working with 119 which is the standard they may have switched it to something else to work with a secured, SSL connection.
Giganews, for eg, uses ports 443 and 563 for SSL.
The IP address you're currently using to connect is located in HongKong. I have no idea what provider is based there but many have various locations around the world.
Where did you originally get the connection info for the newsgroups you've been using? Did you need to log in using a password?
This is what Verizon said about discontinuing newsgroups last year..
https://www.verizon.net/central/vzc....ps_discontinue
So there's the possibility that you'll need to pay for a newsgroup subscription from one of a number of providers like giganews or easynews for example... cost usually starts around 10 dollars/month.
