Replacing DVD Drive With Case Buttons

A friend's DVD drive has failed and she wants me to replace i but I've never seen a drive like this before. The open/close button is part of the case, not the drive. It's an HP mini tower.

How do you replace a CD/DVD drive where the control button is part mounted to the case, not the drive?

Could you provide the exact model number of the system?

You can remove the face plates on dvd drives, but there's no guarantee that the button switches will line up.

I agree, it is probably a standard drive with the front plate removed. If you take the cover off the computer you may be able to see what make the drive is, which might make it easier to track down a replacement.

On all the drives I've owned the button is below the tray. This button is to the right of the tray. I'm including a crude sketch.

I don't know the model of the computer. I'll try to get it, but the computer's about 3-4 years old.

You'll have to look inside of the front bezel to see how it's all connected. HP has some funky plastic button trigger mechanisms.
