redirectingat.com
Many of the links in VDr threads look normal, but recently when I right click on them I find I am going through redirectingat.com . Am I infected with something or is this a new procedure here? If the latter, what data about what/whom is being collected?
redirectingat.com is a website data gathering firm associated with Skimbit/Skimlinks. TrendMicro seems be negative about them.

P.S. right click on the above links to see what I mean.

That's the price members pay for having a free website. There's got to be some way for website advertisers to track their respective ad responses. Knowing where they get the best return on their advertising dollar helps the advertisers know where to direct their dollars. (There was another company up 'til recently doing the dirty work, but they resembled adware too much I guess.) I doubt if anything more than the raw number of hits and the IP addresses are collected. The advertisers themselves, on the other hand, will collect whatever data you give them.
The same data can be used to the website's benefit. If the data show that advertisers get more business from their Website A ads than from others, Website A can raise their adspace rates - much as in the TV and radio markets.

Just so you know, redirectingat.com is blocked by IronPort and probably other web filtering services as being unclassified or potentially harmful. On systems using this filtering service, I have to paste the URL into Notepad and edit it to remove the redirectingat portion and then paste the result into the address bar.

Are you speaking for management?
And what do links inside threads have to do with ad responses?
I think management here could have let people here know what is going on. If there is benefit to us all, maybe we could support this change.

No, I don't speak for anyone but myself. Only fools claim to speak for others.
Nothing seems to be going on any differently than it used to; only the data mining outfit has changed from what I can tell. They crunch numbers and present the analyzed data to advertisers and to host websites.
The benefit to you, if I have things figured correctly, is that the fees paid by them help make the site free to you and everyone else.

Yep, that's essentially it, all it does is track the origins of traffic to affiliate sites. If the destination site is not affiliated, in that case it does nothing.
There is nothing to fear, but life itself.

Dude111--I use IE7. When I see a link within a thread here it looks normal. But when I right click on it it turns into a redirect URL on the screen. And if I left click, I go to the redirectingat.com site before winding up where I expected to go.
