Computer freezes up during install at same spot everytime..

Like the title says, when I try to install Windows 7, it freezes up on this one spot. I am not exactly sure what the problem is. I have an older system that is still able to run it before. I'm reinstalling it because some start up files got corrupted on the hdd so I got a new one. Specs:

    DFI N4F Ultra-D Mobo
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    Corsair PC3200 2gb DDR (3-3-3-8)
    Maxtor SATAII 320GB
    BFG 7950GT OC
    Sony DVD+-RW

I installed it previously with just 1 gb of ddr memory, and it worked fine until I tried overclocking the CPU/Memory. Returned the memory since it didn't like it, and set the frequencies back to recommended timings.

During the install, when it lastly goes to Preparing your Desktop, it freezes as the color wheel is spinning. I shutdown or restart after because it froze and then windows loads, but I can't click on any of the icons because it says that it cannot find the file path, or I do not have administrative right, when I am the only account on the desktop.

    Anyone have ideas?

I also have a problem when I try to install 4 gb of ram. It doesn't boot/page and the mobo just keeps beeping, when the board says that it can take maximum 4 gb.

The first thing I would suggest is that you make sure you have the very latest BIOS version installed, then try reinstalling. I found out the hard way with the Vista betas how fussy they can be about older BIOSes.

In that case you almost certainly have a hardware problem. First of all, take the side off the case and make sure that it isn't full of dust and that all the fans are running.

Finally able to flash the new bios via floppy. So far so good, haven't yet tried installing the OS yet, but I'm doing memtests to see if any of the sticks are bad.

Does anyone know of a bootup software that can scan my HDD and analyze it for errors/health?

Most hdd makers have a diagnostic tool for doing that.
Under support is where it is located.
