    AskBarDis

    Hi there,

Following my previous thread where it was suggested that I post my HiJackThis log, I ran HJT, which I occasionally do.

Have little to no idea what I am looking at and I have no problems with the computer (at the moment.) Both Ad-Aware and SyBot S&D show zilch.

But HJT shows a program, AskBarDis, which is certainly in Program Files. Googling does not really tell me what it is. Seems it may be something to do with Vista, which I do not run. (XP Pro sp3)

    Can I safely remove it?

I think its a Ask.com toolbar that can get installed with Foxit.

Thanks for your reply. Interesting; because when I removed it, although Foxit still worked, when I centre clicked my mouse button (Close Window) it took a few seconds before the window closed.

    I will do some testing.

Seems that AskBarDis is associated with the current Foxit Reader toobar which appears in Firefox. I will play around a see if I can loose it; if not, c'est la vie!

Rex A. Butcher--Did you look in Control Panel|Add/Remove to see if you can uninstall it?
This reference shows where it resides on the hard drive

    Thanks for your reply.

I seem to have disabled it but there are quite a few reg entries for it, scattered around. Will see if opening a pdf in Firefox / Foxit reinstalls it.

Rex A. Butcher--I understand it was not in Add/Remove. See if Windows Installer Cleanup Utility or RevoUninstaller can get rid of the pieces.

    WelshJim,

Not seen under Windows Add/Remove or from RevoUninstaller, which I use frequently.

So I uninstalled Foxit Reader (current version) which seems to have it integrated, reinstalled it without the various tool bar options and hey presto, seems it has gone. Can't even find any reference in the reg.

    Rex A. Butcher--Great!
Your advice is very helpful for those who do not want AskBarDis but do want Foxit.

you can simply remove it directly from firefox web browser.

click on the tools tab, then add-ons. It should be on the list, click uninstall.

That's the way I removed it.

Interesting! I now have FF 3.0.1 and it is not in the Add-On list. However, it is still listed in C:/Program Files with one file being dated of a few days ago.

A good reason to not use FoxIt. IMO, a better alternative (with more options and NO bundled Ask.com garbage) would be free PDF-XChange http://www.docu-track.com/home/prod_...s/pdfx_viewer/

    Han,

always on the lookout for new and exciting freeware. Thanks for the link and am downloading it as I write. If FoxIT is adding AskBarDis, then may be I will uninstall.

3.5 does not have all the Add-ons that I like, yet!
