Added Slave HD, trying to UN-partition it.

    Howdy!
I have an old Compaq 5011CL 1.2 AMD / 320 Ram. / Windows XP / Extra computer, with an onboard Master hard drive is 80GB.

I added another SLAVE 160GB Maxtor IDE for added storage. This particular HD was partitioned with two Drives on it, one was (F: Drive) with 37.3GB and the other was (G: Drive) 115GB. I tried to FORMAT this Slave HD to only have ONE DRIVE, not two individual partitioned ones. I ultimately want only TWO DRIVES on this computer.

    MASTER HD – 80GB - ( LOCAL DISK C: )
    ______________________________________________________

    SLAVE HARD DRIVE – 160GB ( 37.3GB + 115GB = 152.3GB)
    First partition-
In the FORMAT drop down menu is the following:
    Capacity 37.3GB - ( F: DRIVE )
    File System (NTFS)

    Allocation Unit Size Default,
    512,
    1024,
    2048, and
    4096.

    Second partition-
In the FORMAT drop down menu is the following:
    Capacity 115GB - ( G: DRIVE )
    File System (NTFS)

    Allocation Unit Size Default,
    512,
    1024,
    2048, and
    4096.

Is there anyway to go back into the FORMAT Option and delete the smaller (F partition so that there would only be one large Volume on this Secondary Hard drive?
    Thank You!

Is there anything you want on the drive?

My thinking on the Slave was to have one volume instead of a partitioned drive, and to move files/folders into the Slave drive, since my original 80GB master C: DRIVE is full.

Keep applications on the master, then use the Slave Drive to store jpgs/files/docs/music on the slave, if that's possible.

That said, do I still use the Disk management feature to accomplish what I need,or is this a lost cause?

Windows disk management is fairly limited in what you can do. It will delete the partition(s) but won't expand the one that remains. You'd either need to delete them both and create one large drive or use another partition tool to expand the remaining one.

You could use Gparted which is on this boot CD...

Probably easier to do it the first way if you have no data to save on the drives.

use the Slave Drive to store jpgs/files/docs/music on the slave
That is what I and many of us do.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.
