usb ports not working after power outage

    Hello all,

Yesterday I had a 10 sec power spike at my house and then lost power for a day. My problem is none of the usb ports work anymore. My keyboard and mouse both connect using usb so I cannot log on to see if there are any more issues with the pc. The pc and monitor both come up fine. I've plugged the keyboard and mouse into another computer and they work fine. I guess what I'm wondering is did the power spike fry my usb ports?

Does your computer allow for the use of PS/2 mice and KB?

They look about like this on the back of the computer.

See if the keyboard will allow you to enter the BIOS Setup. If it does it would suggest Windows corruption rather than a hardware problem.

No it doesn't. I'm thinking they're fried since all six don't work. Too bad they can't be replaced since they're embedded on the motherbd. I do think I can get a pci card that has 2 usb ports on it. Thanks for the help..

I think getting a PCI card will be your only option without replacing the entire motherboard.

ronrussellwings--I know it sounds like closing the barn door after the horse has left, but for the future and if you do not already have one, buy a proper surge protector, better yet one with Uninterrupted Power Supply.

If necessary, have someone help you determine the wattage and VA load you need for your equipment.
