    Why is computer freezing?

I just installed dsl on fatherinlaws HP Pavilion computer with 10 gb harddrive and 128 mgbs ram. It works fine and all but when you close down the browser and then go do anything else on the computer even just shutting down it freezes up. This just happens after you've been on the internet. You can do anything on the computer before with no freezing.
Hope somebody might a solution to this. Would more memory help? I just installed more recently.
    Thanks for any help,
    Alan

I assume you're using Internet Explorer; it sounds like a corrupted install. It's hanging while trying to close down completely. Try reinstalling it. If you've been using IE 5.5, go to IE6. It's more stable and works better.

Regarding the RAM, the two HP Pavilions I've owned maxed out at 256MB RAM. It doesn't sound like much, but for an older 9x system you'll see quite a difference. Post your model number and we'll go from there.

Older versions do have a repair option.
