You're asking if you can use it as an ethernet bridge. Depending on the version, you can flash it with DDWRT or Tomato to enable client mode.

Trouble connecting...
I have the powerbook connected to the ethernet bus of the router and tried connecting http://192.168.1.1 with no luck. Error:
"Safari could not open the page “http://192.168.1.1/” because the server is not responding."
I also tried using Firefox and Shiira, same error.

Were the router settings changed? Did you to a full reset?
What IP is your laptop set to? Is DHCP enabled on the router?

I pressed the reset button on the router. Where do I find my IP? I don't know what's enabled on the router.
Thanx

You're running a mac, so it would be somewhere in the network settings. I don't run a mac, so i don't have the exact screen names.
I hope you know that to do a full reset on the router you have to hold the reset button down for 20-30sec.

If you are getting a 192.168.1.100 IP, then you should be able to connect to the router at 192.168.1.1. Can you at least ping the router?
You still didn't say which version of the WRT54GS you have. Look at the first 4 digits of the serial number.

First 4: CGN7
pinging gets stuck. I let it ping for 1 minute and no response.

Reach in back of the modem and unplug the power, wait over 30 seconds plug it back in.
When the modem is back up, try to get on the internet.

I am currently connected to the internet using the aircard. I want to use the linksys hoping that it will connect to the signal better. The walls at my house are thick and I get a weak single, where the source is the next bedroom.
I unplugged and reconnect after a minute. Still no connection to the router.

Believe me, a better antenna is worth it.
Stucko walls with wiremesh in them will flat kill a signal. Had to drill a hole and go wired.

That's a version 5 router, so Tomato won't work and DDWRT will be limited.

Thank you both for your time. None of it went to waste as this has been a learning process for me.
I'll look into getting an extender and put it between the rooms.

Good Luck and do make sure you get a good antenna. The higher the dB the better.
