ID computer hardware
I used to use a program called Everest to ID hardware but I understand it's outdated now. Is there a another free program that will ID your hardware? Thanks.
I did a search, didn't come up with anything concrete.

Here's a good one too. One for newer systems since Belarc might not see your new hardware. PC Wizard
I use this one, as does SuperSparks.

Thanks folks, I D/L'ed them all. One of them is got to tell me what I want to know.
Note: I just installed Windows 2000 Pro. on an eMachine that previously had XP on it. I need to find drivers for 2K. reason: system totally hosed, not able to run system restore CD.

Which emachine? Why are not able to run the restore? Might want to check the harddrive too while you're at it.

Step daughters model W3506 desktop. She says one of her friends download some antivirus software called A360. It kept asking for money-she wouldn't pay. The computer shutdown completely, could not get into safe mode or start the restore CD. Error: C:\minint\system32\restore.log missing. At this point in would loop back and do the same thing over again. I had an unused copy of Win 2K from a few years ago and was able to reformat the HD and install. Now I'm looking for drivers(LOL). Thanks.

I'm surprised that w2k didn't install the drivers. I just installed that on a system I have here, an HP, and it installed all the drivers except the standalone Modem.

I'm hoping that after I update to SP4 it will pickup most of the drivers I need. One that I'm concerned about is the display adapter. After I ID it I'll search for a suitable driver for it. The machine is not that old-2006(I think) I'm going to try some XP drivers through the device manager to see if Windows 2K will use them. Thanks again.

I've heard of ransomware but haven't seen it myself. Pretty low.
PL's right, most WinXP drivers can be substituted for Win2000's - at least for SP3 and higher. It may be easier to install SP4 and the Rollups first, then go back and load the drivers if possible. You'll probably have to go looking for the chipset driver, though. One other thing - MSConfig isn't part of 2000's repertoire, but XP's version works with 2000 just fine. Download from the link below, it may come in handy.

Thanks for the link to msconfig Igbpop that will come in handy. I've managed to get most of the drivers I need, still lacking one for an PCI modem and one for a PCI controller. I'll work on them tomorrow. Right now I'm D/Ling some more updates, then it's off to bed. Thanks to everyone for the help.
