Windows Has Detected An IP Address Conflict

I have Windows Vista Home Basic on a Dell laptop that I am trying to connect wireless to my Linksys router. For some reason when I try to connect wirelessly to my router with this Vista laptop I am getting the message "Windows Has Detected An Ip Address Conflict"

I tried my XP Pro laptop and it connects with no problem to the Linksys router. The Vista machine is actually showing connected but no webpages will display and the IP address conflict message keeps popping up.

Hotfix did not work. All of my XP laptops connect wirelessly fine. I wonder if there is some compatibility problem with Vista and a Linksys WRT54GS router.

For some reason Vista will not grab the next open IP address like my XP laptops do. Could there be a Vista tweak in the registry that would make Vista grab a new IP address instead of one that is already being used?

I may try to update my router firmware to see if that fixes the problem. It's got to be something in Vista because every other wireless laptop that I have works fine with this router.

I just updated the firmware on my Linksys WRT54GS router and my Windows Vista laptop is now connecting without any IP conflict error messages. My firmware version is now 1.52.5 on my router. I guess there was a compatiblity problem with Vista and my router. The new firmware must have fixed the problem.

Vista has IPV 6 , while older versions of Windows does not.

The upgrade as you found out, fixed things.

I have disconnected and reconnected to my Linksys router several times now and everything is still working great. No more ip address conflicts.
