Resolved getPlus error when installing Adobe Reader

Have seen this twice now, but no mention of it in their support pages. Thought I'd document it in case anyone else runs into it.

If you install Adobe Reader 9 (without the googlebar) from the Adobe website, it will use getPlus (presumably an ActiveX install routine), but will error with this:

    Operating System error! (15219.101.220)

If you get this error, just click the Okay button, then use the link on the Adobe page to download it instead (I've included it below).

Thank you. Your download will start automatically.
If it does not start, click here to download.

Teknophobia--There is a thread on the Adobe forum about problems installing Reader 9.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5b178/12
The circumstances all are a little different, but the bottom line is that downloading is not a problem but installation fails at the 99.9% installed stage.
So far no input from Adobe.
There also was an earlier thread here. http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d.php?t=231821

P.S. I am no quite sure I understand the last part of your post. Your link is for the download which presumably has already occurred.

    Jim,

The download link works - it's when that getPlus tries to install it on-line that you get the error (straight away I might add, not at 99%). Once you download the link I provided, you can run it from your PC with no issues.

    Teknophobia--Thanks for your input.
Even using the download you suggest, I still go to 99.9% installed and then installation closes.
There is a more recent post on the Adobe forum which says to uninstall any earlier version of Reader using Windows Install Cleanup Utility (presumably rather than with Add/Remove). I will try that in a few days.

That did not work either. Anyone heard of a solution to installing Reader 9?

At work, because I need Adobe (we use a special search plug-in made for Adobe Reader), I downloaded the least bloated version of 9 which is at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader..._en_US_Std.exe This version is just Reader 9 (no Air, no toolbar.)

FWIW, Adobe is not my default PDF reader at work or at home. PDF-XChange gets the nod for that...

It all started with printing issues on a Windows 2000 terminal server and I ended up here.
For whatever reason, cant install Reader 7.10, cant download 8 or 9, but Thanks to HAN, I am now installing 9.
Just thought I would mention.....During the version 9 install, it hung at "validating install" for about 10 minutes, then a couple errors about not able create desktop shortcut, but aside from that...seemed to install okay.
This cost me about a total of 2 hours. Thanks Adobe.

Having issues downloading or installing 7, 8 or 9, but thanks to HAN I am able to push forward with 9.

Total time wasted on all this is about 2 hours.. Thanks Adobe.

    Still no luck here.
I downloaded another copy of AdbeRdr90_en_US_Std.exe from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader..._en_US_Std.exe And ran it. The Adobe Reader 9-Setup window shows "Processing" as a progress bar, got to 99.98% complete for "Processing" as before, hesitated a few seconds and then turned on my Epson scanner's Copy Utility (!) as before. I let things sit a few minutes, since I know that if I close the Copy Utility window the Adobe Setup window will also close. Nothing further happened. (Antivirus program was disabled for all of this.)
I guess I will just make do with Adobe 8.1.2. (Or eventually switch to Foxit.)
