How to bypass the 4gb fat32 Limitation?
Hi to all, i'm having a bit of trouble, i have an ati radeon ddr 64meg ViVo video device and was trying to record from the tv, but when i recorded it made a file size of 3.9gb's about 66mins having a hard disk of 30gb's i could of put in 6 times that amount, i thought it out for a while and remembered somewhere, by the way i'm using windows 98 SE, that the windows has a fat32 harddisk file limitation of 4Gbs, is there a way to workaround this limitation whitout making any changes to my capturing options?? Thanks in advance...

the limitation to FAT32 'was' actually around 30-40GB if i remember correctly, if you get an update, by today's standards of hard drives, you are faced with no limit, the culprit is in your Video Recording Software, which one are you using by the way?? go into the setup options, there should be something there that says your limit on how much space you want to use to record video, just up that to as much as you want and your problem should be solved.

Hi, however we're saying 2 different things and anyway i have an Ati Radeon DDR ViVo 64mb'er Reatil and using the MMC7.1 Software(latest) When i said 4gb limitation I meant Recording in the Fat32 Envirorment, Windows NT and 2000 don't have these problems since they use the other format, thank alot anyway.

You are correct. In FAT32 an individual file is limited to 4 gig in size, thus the limitation you're referring to on the size of your capture files.
There are capture/edit programs that will get around this limit by busting (automatically) the capture in to mltiple files on the fly. Unfortunately I can't remmember the names right now, but there out there.

Ok, take a look at a (free) product called VirtualDub. Haven't tried it in a while, but as I recall it can handle the multi-file capture thing.

What in the world are you recording? lol There are easier alternatives. Video tapes, for example
Is there any particular reason you want this on your computer?...
