Bit strange, affects both browsers?
a few questions:
do you have zone alarm?
can you view a normal .jpg from Explorer, e.g. just double clicking on my documents\myface.jpg?
can you drop this picture on top of firefox and it shows?
You can also try browsing to the Mozilla Image Test to seeing if any of that advice helps.
Also try start, run, sfc /scannow to make sure none of your systems became corrupted when your machine BSOD'd.
Also check this setting in outlook:
* Go to "tools" at the top and the choose "options"
* Go to "security"
* uncheck "Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail"
* click OK / Accept
If you have followed the advice from the previous post, then you may need to check your registry:
Quit all browsers
Click Start, and then click Run, type Regedit, and then press enter.
Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif click the plus next to .gif,
It should have Content Type value in the right pane of the registry editor and type image/gif in the Value Data box, is this ok?.
Locate and check key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg, again does this have images/jpg and some other bits when you click on the plus?
There may be a chance that your registry became corrupt when you machine crashed, if so you can add them easily enough. HERE
I would also check what processes are running at start up.
good luck!
