    lost disconnect/connect prompt

My grand daughter by mistake checked "don't use auto connect" box in the prompt that asks "disconnect or stay connected" and I can't figure out how to get it back. Can anyone help. Windows XP SP2, IE 6, and I am on dialup. Thank you

sparkyrhett--Perhaps a worthless comment. If that is not an exact message could it be one of the options in IE Tools|Internet Options|Connections tab? Or perhaps this is a message from a "Stay Connected" program? Many dial up ISP's disconnect users after a short time of "no activity". Their idea of no activity includes downloading.

Jim: I have checked all my settings in modem, power mgt and IE. I have them all set at "never". I can be idle for hours and no issues. It could be my ISP's prompt, but to find out I would have to undo them and then redo. This issue is not serious except It comes in handy should someone forget to get off line when their session is completed. I also thought about restore, but I just completed several microsoft updates, and that in itself is a day job with dialup.

sparyrhett--Regrets, I have no ideas for you. (I cannot find this setting when I open Modem in Control Panel.) I hope someone else will join in.

    sparkyrhett,
In Control Panel go to "Network Connections".
Under "Advanced" in the menu dropdown bar, select "Dial-up Preferences".

I'm not on a dial up but I think this is where you find the settings.

sparkyrhett--As mentioned in my first post, look in IE Tools|Internet Options|Connections|highlight your dial up ISP|Settings|on the next window click Advanced.
The exact words you mentioned are not there, but there are some settings which may allow you to do what you want and/or avoid those messages.

I use dial-up at home. I'll look for the settings as soon as I get a chance...

Ok, here we go... When Internet Explorer is open, go to Tools|Internet Options|Connections Tab, highlight the dialup connection you are using, click on Settings (NOT setup), look for Dial-up settings, click on Advanced, and finally(!), check the box that says "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed". This is the box that brings up the question you are looking for.
