Virtual PC can't open Virt. Mc. Network Services driver

Virtual PC has been refusing to open its console for a couple of weeks. It lived happily in the tray, and launched good virtual machines from the right-click menu, but the "Show Virtual PC Console" choice only showed a task on the taskbar, without actually showing the console. (It wasn't hidden, couldn't be moved or sized.) So I uninstalled and reinstalled.

Now things are even worse. Since the reinstall (and the re-reinstall, several times) starting VirtualPC brings up this dialog:

"Virtual PC could not open the Virtual Machine Network Services driver.
"Access to the external network and host will be unavailable ... <snip>
"To fix this problem, re-enable the Virtual Machine Network Services driver on one or more ethernet adapters or reinstall Virtual PC."

Looking at Devices in Computer Management there are no Virtual PC drivers listed (Show hidden devices is enabled).

Reinstalls have not made any difference. What else can I try?

Fwiw I had a trial of VMware installed, and it's drivers are listed Devices. Must VMware be uninstalled to run Virtual PC? They co-existed fine for ages.

Any ideas or suggestions will be welcome! I guess I could abandon VPC and just switch to VMware ... but I have a lot of useful VPC images.

See if the solution posted here helps

    CAUSE
This issue may occur if the Virtual Machine Network Services driver is missing, corrupted, or disabled, or if the associated registry keys are corrupted or missing.

    RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, re-install the Virtual Machine Network Services driver on the physical computer. To do so, follow these steps: 1. Close Virtual PC if it is running.
    2. Open Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.
    3. Right-click the network connection, click Properties, and then click Install.
    4. Click Service, and then click Add.
    5. Click Have Disk, and then click Browse.
    6. Locate the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Virtual PC\Utility\VMNetSrv folder, click the VMNetSrv.inf file, and then click Open.
    7. Click OK.
    8. Restart the computer.

Thanks 104456! unfortunately there's no change after reinstalling the driver.

The Virtual Machine Network Services driver is listed as being used, in the Local Area Connection properties. Looking at the VMNS driver's properties shows general titles but no info (ie shows "Driver Provider: <blank>" etc.

Is it likely that VMware (which I installed after first installing Virtual PC 2007, though VPC07 has now been reinstalled with VMware present) is interfering with the VPC07 drivers?

    Any other ideas, please ?
