    WD Passort Drive - Encryption

Planning to buy a WD Passport Drive. It has software encryption. Wonder how strong is it compare to hardware encryption?

Anyone has this drive? Do you like it?

Properly done, software encryption should be just as secure as hardware.

If you don't want to use WD's choice for a software encryption package, you could always use TrueCrypt. Copy the stand-alone kit in the root folder of the partition so you can run it from any computer. Then use the software to create one or more encrypted files that will be mounted as a separate drive. Pick a secure password and you're all set.

The reviews are awesome. Can you give me a little overview and tutorial about it? Thanks

BTW... Which encryption method do you recommend - blowfish?

    Interesting

    I bought the drive.

I ran the software and it asked for a password. So, I put in a password. It said the drive encrypt 128 bit AES. After it encrypts and ever time I plug the drive back in, shouldn't it ask for the password? It doesn't in my case. Can someone explain to me what it means by encryption?

I thought encryption is good incase I lose the drive, no one can retract any data from it.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong but I believe you need admin rights inorder to install the virtual encrypt disc.
