    CD Drive Not Working

    Ok First off my CD drive is a combo IDE5232CO

    Device manager sees it. It has the exclamation mark by it. I go to the manufactures website and download the firmware upgrade and it doesn't see my drive.

    It worked when I put it in for one day. Now it sees it and it doesn't show under My Computer, just device manager. Help is MUCH appreciated!

    Uninstall it in Device Manager (as many instances of it as you find there). Then reboot the PC and let Windows redetect the drive.

    I uninstalled then rebooted. Windows detected and I went to device manager cause it still wasn't showing under my computer and it still has a problem.

    Any other solutions?

    I have had a couple of new dvd drives that died after burning one or 2 disks - maybe your hardware is kapput! I lost a Sony drive and an Asus drive. In fact my replacement Asus drive wasn't much better. I am now using a LiteOn drive with good results.

    Hi this should fix your problem. copy and paste all below to notepad then click on file and select "save as" in the save window call it fixcd.reg and save to desktop. then open desktop and double click on the file say yes when prompted to merge into registry reboot for changes to take effect. Copy this:-

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
    "UpperFilters"=-
    "LowerFilters"=-

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr]
