Java problems after install - can't open Java control panel
I hope someone can help me, I am going absolutely crazy trying to figure this out.
Two days ago my Norton identified a tracing cookie on my computer. Norton fixed the problem, but ever since then my java has not worked.
For example, I will open pogo.com and select a game to play. A second screen opens as usual and then all of my internet explorer windows close almost instantly with no errors or warnings.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled java 6 update 2 twice. I have tried accessing the Java control panel and it will not open.
I am very concerned that I still have a virus or someone has access to my computer and I'm going absolutely crazy trying to determine what's going on.
I've cleared all temporary internet files and cookies, I just don't know what to do besides formatting the entire computer and starting over. I really don't want to do that as my computer is only 9 months old.
HELP!!
thanks

Hello mindyrae1115
Here are a few things to try.
1. Right click Desktop/Properties
Make sure that colours are set to 256
2. IE/Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom (at bottom)
Scroll down to bottom to
Scripting of Java applets
Check “Enable”
Then click the Advanced Tab
Scroll down and make sure Java is enabled here too
3. Register these files
Start/Run and type in
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
OK
Repeat the above for all of the following dlls
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
4. Go to your Control Panel
Open Java (You may need to switch to "Classic view")
Click the “Delete Files” button. Then OK.
Is this what you can`t open?
5 Java test
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
If you fail the test scroll down to a check list
Tracking cookies
It is usual to gather some of these. If you want to check your system run these good free programs
Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Update it before running. Get it to fix all the RED entries it finds
SUPERAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/
Download the free version

Followed steps with some failures - dll registration
1. Right click Desktop/Properties
Make sure that colours are set to 256
- color options are only medium (16 bit) or high (32 bit) and selection is 16 bit
2. IE/Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom (at bottom)
Scroll down to bottom to
Scripting of Java applets
Check “Enable”
- already selected
Then click the Advanced Tab
Scroll down and make sure Java is enabled here too
- option "Use JRE 1.6.0_02 for <applet> (requires restart)" is selected.
3. Register these files
Start/Run and type in
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
OK
- file registration failed "Loadlibrary ("shdocvw.dll") failed - the specified module could not be found"
Repeat the above for all of the following dlls
regsvr32 Shell32.dll - successful
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll - successful
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll - successful
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll - Failed - "mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterserver entry point was not found, this file cannot be registered"
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll - successful
4. Go to your Control Panel
Open Java (You may need to switch to "Classic view")
Click the “Delete Files” button. Then OK.
Is this what you can`t open?
- This is the console that I still cannot open. In internet explorer, I click on Tools/Sun Java Console and all internet explorer windows are terminated.
5 Java test
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
- I clicked on this link and immediately all my internet explorer windows are terminated.
Any thoughts?
Thank you very much for all your info!!

Have a read of this
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/iecrash.xml
Check it all out
Follow the instructions down the page under "Display settings"
"Note:
With incorrect color settings, users will not be able to start the "Java Control Panel", and may still experience a Web browser crash when visiting a Web page running Java technology based applets."

following settings worked perfectly for me
the first picture shows how to enable Java Plugin Launching for browsers ( when Java does not work with any browser and also unable to verify java on java.com site )
https://app.box.com/s/7tr2vycuweq8mmr1moep
the second picture shows how to enable Java Control Panel ( or Configure Java )
https://app.box.com/s/1np8vjrw54gkjcog01cf
the third picture shows the folder path where these two java applications are located in the computer

just right-click on the JP2LAUNCHER click Properties click Compatibility tick Compatibility Mode set WindowsNT
repeat the same thing for the other one ( JAVAW ) Java Control Panel
