    [Home]Autostart Trillian

I want to add Trillian to my startup when I turn on the computer, so it automatically opens and starts running. How do I get it into the Startup list in msconfig? Thanks all.

Create a shortcut to the Trillian executable program file in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
    or in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

It seems to be already in the start / programs menu but when I bootup the computer it doesn't start up automatically. I have to go start/programs/trillian and click it. Throught there was a way to automatically get it to start up on its own; maybe not?

It's going to be in the Programs menu already, as you've seen. In the Programs window, go one step further and double-click the Startup folder, then put a shortcut in there.

I don't use Trillian, but isn't there an option within Trillian to automaticly open at start up?

No no, programs will only start if a shortcut is in one of the Startup folders.

If you create a shortcut to your "C:\Program Files\Trillian\trillian.exe" executable program file in the folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
then Trillian will automatically startup whenever anyone (All Users) logs on.

If you create a shortcut to your "C:\Program Files\Trillian\trillian.exe" in the folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<some user name>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
then Trillian will automatically startup only when <some user name> logs on.

If you'd like to see a listing of everything that's in all of your Startup folders:
    1. Click Start | Run

    2. Copy & paste the following line into the Open: box and press [Enter]
      Code:
      cmd /c dir /b /s "C:\Documents and Settings" | find "Start Menu\Programs\Startup" > C:\StartupFolders.txt
    3. Click Start | Run once again, type in notepad c:\startupfolders.txt and press [Enter]. You should now be looking at the list in Notepad.

Clicking your Start button and then pointing to All Programs is actually nothing more than a pointer that points to a combination of whatever is in all of your \Start Menu\Programs folders. The ones I see here on this XP machine are:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
    C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Start Menu\Programs
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Start Menu\Programs
And each one of those contain a Startup folder.

Why not just right click it in 'Programs' and send a shortcut to the desktop? Then you can drag it into the quickstart list and just one click after startup will open it...
    Stupid question? No such thing!

Not sure I'm getting through to you guys. When I turn on the computer, I want trillian to start up automatically. Not sure I am following your instructions but it doesn't start up automatically.

If you were to put a shortcut to trillian in
    C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder

It will start up automatically everytime you boot or reboot your computer.

Now should want everyone to have it start up automatically, then put the shortcut in this folder.

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
