    CD stuck inside laptop

I have a Sony Vaio laptop. I inserted a CD into the D drive and when I ejected the drive, the CD was not in it. So I guess it is inside the laptop. The drive opens and closes, but I have no idea how to get it out. Is this something I can do myself or should I take it to a repair shop??

    Magic.

Seriously though, did anyone else use the lap top between when you inserted the CD and when you tried to eject it. ie someone else removed it?

Nope, it was all me. It must have not been seated properly on the drive and when I closed the drive (maybe too hard??) it must have kept on going into the bowels of the laptop. It took about 4 tries to get the drive to eject, but when it did, no CD. It does not appear to be hurting anything, but it can't be good lying inside there.

First of all, a cd player/burner in a laptop is enclosed in plastic housing, and there is no way a cd can end up inside your computer. Though, it can break apart and end up inside the casing on the drive itself. If you can remove the drive from the laptop, you can probably open the drive using the teeny tiny pin hole and a straightened paper clip poked into this hole, will open the drive, then gently shake the drive itself, pieces should fall out.

What's the model and number on that laptop?

Usually the CD/DVD drive on laptops is a self contained unit that can be fully removed from the lap top, so I'm not sure where the CD has gone as there wouldn't be that much room within the unit for it to disappear to.

Thanks for your responses. I am glad to hear it is a self-contained unit. It has to be just laying in there then. I tried turning it to shake it out--nothing. It doesn't even rattle. I guess I will ask someone who knows about laptops to come over and get it out. I am clueless.

Some laptops have a push button on the bottom to remove the cd drive itself, but I can't tell if yours does cause you still didn't give me the model number. And another thing, it isn't just lying in there whole because the drive casing isn't large enough for this to occur. When you put any cd/dvd in a drive, if you don't make sure it's lying flat, and you close the drive and attempt to use it, the cd/dvd can break apart into pieces.

Ok, Sony has a download for the manual, with instructions on how to remove that drive. Link is to support, then scroll down the page until you see "Product Support" then under that is a heading called Technical Support with a link to "Manuals/Specs & Warranty" on the next page enter your Viao Model number and it will take you to a page to get the "manuals".
