WIN.INI file contains an invalid default printer specification
I got that message from Norton after being unable to print anything. I uninstalled the printer (HP Deskjet 720C) and when i tried to install it again it reported Error 38 and that was unable to update .ini file. I went into WIN.INI and discover many checked entries HDFDJC14.DRV. I don't know what to do to resolve that. If somebody could help... my husband will be very impress with me! Thanks.

Did you remove it from add/remove programs or from Start | Settings | Printers? Have a look at both and if it still seems possible to remove anything that way - do so.
Edit the win.ini file and reboot. (Start | Run and enter notepad c:\windows\win.ini
Remove all references to the printer in the [PrinterPorts] and [Devices] sections as well as any sections it's created on it's own (the whole section).
There will also probably be an entry under the [windows] section as a device= entry for it which needs to be removed as well.
Has this one placed any entries in autoexec.bat?
I think your error 38 on this one results from the Name the device wants to use already being in use.

IMM, i uninstalled the printer software with its own CD, and tried to install it with the CD also. But i had to cancel the installation after the Error in .ini file. I will of course try your advice, although i am a bit scare. Many thanks
