    can't install windows 98 nor 95 after reformating hard drive

    I just reformatted my friend hard drive. I tried to install windows 98. I keep getting a message "windows setup requires largest executable program file to be at least 4422368 bytes to run. What is this file and where do i get this file so I can install window 98.

    This sounds like an error regarding the amount of conventional (Lower 640k) of memory that you have available. You need to make sure that you are booting from a disk that has himem.sys on it, and that you have line in your config.sys file that points to this file. For instance, if you are booting from the A: drive, you need to make sure you have himem.sys on your floppy diskette, and your config.sys file should contain the line:
    Device=A:\Himem.sys
    If you are attempting to install Win98 full version, and your machine is capable of it, you can boot from the Win98 cd and it will take care of allocating the memory appropriately for install.

    Please post back....

    Thanks, Sherrick I needed to add that line in my config.sys. It worked okay....I was able to install win98. Thank again for that speedy reply. God Bless you and yours.
