Resolved [RESOLVED] windows cannot install update to .NET Framework

Every day for the last week (maybe longer) when I go to shut down my computer Windows tries to install an update to Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.

If I try to install this update during the day I get a message "Some updates could not be installed"

I am on a new computer which is a Sony VCG-RB40 with 1G of ram and a 3G Intel CPU.

    Any ideas? TIA....Gary

garybeafl--There are several threads on this here http://search.microsoft.com/results....KB928366+(.Net
Is that the only error message you are getting? When you get the "Some updates could not be installed" message within Windows Updates, there often is the option to click for more info.

I didn't read through all that but from reading some of it I get that you have to install .NET Framework 1.1 first before you can update it. When I tried to install >NET Framework 1.1 I got an error message "Info 9002 Microsoft. NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB867460) cannot be installed because you have one or more hot fixes installed. Remove them and try again"

I don't know what hot fixes they are talking about so how could I remove them?
    Thanks for the reply.......Gary

garybeafl--My first reaction is to be sure you have gone into Control Panel|Add/Remove and uninstalled .NET Framework 1 (and/or 1.1) and any hotfixes/service packs listed directly beneath it. Try that and see if you still get the message. Reboot. NET Framework 1/1.1 is pretty old and unlikely to be needed. Just uninstall it and see if you ever feel you do need it.
If no help, do you find any help here?

The different versions of .NET aren't really "upgrades". Some programs that work on .Net 1.1 or 2.0 won't run on 3.0. And, .Net 3.5 depends on 2.0.

I usually recommend against removing 1.1 for compatibility reasons. Microsoft's .Net developers did a pretty good job making 2.0 backward-compatible, but it is not 100%. An application written for and tested on 1.1 may not work on 2.0.

Then instead of uninstalling 1.1 should I install 2? or 3?

Well, if you do not see the need for the latter, just wait until you do. However, there usually is nothing to lose by installing 2 and 3 and 3.5 and being ready.

I uninstalled .NET1.1 and 1 hotfix listed under it.
And what is happening as far as the automatic and repetitive updating?
