Trying to identify a device
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 RTM, and I've got a yellow splat in Device Manager Although everything seems to work OK, it annoys me having a yellow splat. This is what I'm getting from Device manager:
I'm not having any luck with identifying it though. Does anyone have any ideas on where to find out what the pesky thing is please?
Nick.

I found some info on the german gigabyte forum, i'm guessing you've tried the chipset drivers, but here we go again: http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList..._inf_vista.exe

It seems that Intel call it EHCI, and Linux folks call it HECI, just to make things confusing
http://www.intel.com/technology/usb/ehcispec.htm
I have those chipset drivers installed Liam, the yellow splat is what I was left with afterwards. It looks like I'll just have to be patient and wait for some better chipset drivers (they are beta drivers ATM), as I can't find any separate driver for that AHCI controller. As I say, I can't find anything that doesn't work, so it isn't that big a deal.
Thanks guys
Nick.

Name change, figures.
Vista sure has a lot of growing up to do.

Usually when I have run across that "PCI Simple Communications Controller" it was a voice modem. I don't suppose you have one of those, do you?

Nope, nothing like that. I think it is that EHCI controller - following the link that Train posted eventually led to sites that say it is part of the Intel 965 chipset, which is what I do have. I suspect when Gigabyte release the final version chipset drivers the yellow splat will go. I hope so anyway.

Ok, just checking and offering another bit of advice. I didn't think you would have or need a voice modem.
