[RESOLVED] java & youtube
I used to see videos on 'youtube' without any problem but now I get a message saying
"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest flash player."
I've checked & got the latest Flash player and I've uninstalled and reinstalled - Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition, Runtime Environment, Version 5.0 - but still get the same message!
As far as I know the only thing that's changed is my upgrade to IE7 (and that's already cost me £50 for an upgrade to the Roxio software I use )
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Java isn't JavaScript.
That error tends to be a broken Flash installation though. Try uninstalling Flash through Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, then reinstalling it (link).

stewart borland--If nothing else works, try putting YouTube.com into your Trusted Sites.
And if you start looking for flash8b.ocx you may not find it. The latest version of Flash Player installs flash9b.ocx .

Thanks, not sure how/what fixed it in the end - the uninstal prog at the adobe site stuck half way through and I had to reboot, the re-instal couldn't find the plugin folder (and I didn't have a clue either!!) but some how after re-visiting the site and re-installing again it's working
I don't ask how or why, I just say thankyou

Spoke too soon ??
Youtube has gone again, although I first noticed I'd lost it when I tried the speed test and got - Speed Test requires at least version 7 of Flash. Please update your client.
When I go to Flash screen it seems to install it, but something's not right?

Just tried from Tuttle's link again and got the 'couldn't find the browsers plugin directory' message. Where will it be on IE7?

Stewart, Following the instructions at the link that Elaine provided in her reply many times corrects the problem you're having.
Edited to add: If you're using RegSeeker some versions of it knock out one of the FlashPlayer entries and this causes problems also.
