[RESOLVED] Only 1 PS/2 port???
I'm letting my ignorance show again .
I'm starting to research some motherboards for a new build and I keep coming across something that, to me, looks odd.
I'm seeing a number of motherboards with only one PS/2 port. Are they assuming that you have a USB/firewire mouse/keyboard setup?
What is the reasoning for this?
Thanks,
Don

PS2 is going the way of all PC oldies. Now,most mice/mousies/whatever are becoming USB. They 'do' make a plug-on adapter to convert however...
Stupid question? No such thing!

My newer Asus board is like this. But as Ridge points out PS/2 is old technology, USB being faster anyway, I wouldn't want a PS/2 mouse.

I last used a PS/2 mouse and keyboard somewhere around 2002, I think it was. TBH, I'm surprised that motherboard makers are still including even one port.

SuperSparks, I prefer they keep one for KB/mouse as I have a lot of used (but very new) PS/2 keyboard. Ha....

On new motherboards with only one PS/2 port, keyboard port is what it is for. At least on my motherboard that's what it's for.

PS/2 is definitely for the keyboard. Newer mice (especially "gamer" mice) have higher transmission rates that PS/2 ports just can't handle.

Sorry for the delay in getting back. Work issues.
But, thanks for letting me know just how out of touch I am !
I guess I knew it, but I haven't shopped for a motherboard in some time and now it has hit home.
Thank you all for responding.

There are other issues with mice. I have a very small hand, and some mice and trackballs are too large for comfort. I also have arthritis in 2 fingers, and need buttons that push easily.
After buying several new mice that were too hard for me to push repeatedly, I settled with my 2 old mice, which are both PS 2. When I visit clients, I carry my own mouse.
