    Angry AT&T Games not installing

    Hi all,

My wife loves to play the AT&T games (hidden adventure types) offered by AT&T at this site. Each month she downloads her favorite game and simply double click the file and setup begins to install.

Yesterday after downloading the installation file, when she double clicked the file, the normal setup box appears, then immediately minimizes and nothing happens. I opened the Task Manager and the program shows "Not Responding". I closed it and performed the same actions and watched it do the same. I notified AT&T and they are pointing the issue to her machine. She has even downloaded several other games and upon installation, the very same issue is happening.

She has changed nothing on her machine, other then Windows updates.

    Windows 7 - home
Two browsers (IE 9.0, and Firefox 10.0)
Microsoft Security Essentials (tried also disabling)

She has been playing these AT&T games since last June. Does any have any ideas what is happening?

    Thanks in advance.

    Train,

I have not changed the anti-virus software.

Also, I disabled the DEP - same issue occurs.

I have found temp folds so full that they caused problems.

Install and run TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer
    http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files...r-by-oldtimer/

6 GB of garbage is the max it has found for me on messed up computers.

    Try revouninstaller
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html

That should find what is left of the programs and get rid of them. Free version should be enough.

    Tutorial here should help out.

About the only thing I can come up with now is doing a clean install.
Maybe someone can post some that will help out.

    Train,

Thanks for the help. I'll stand-by for a few days before performing a clean install.

By the way - can I do a clean install from my upgrade CD? Her computer was upgraded from Vista to Win7.

you'll need to select the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. A custom installation doesn't preserve your programs, files, or settings. It's sometimes called a "clean" installation for that reason.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ndows-7-custom

when it asks for what it is updating, but the Vista cd in.

Better yet read the How to Clean Install Windows 7 with a Upgrade DVD Disc or ISO Image bit at

    Train,

Thank you. I'm still holding out for a fix first. This computer is only 3-years old.

    Train,

I think I may have stumbled upon something...

I booted into safe mode with networking and the AT&T setup program opened and began downloading the game and installed perfectly.

After booting back normally, I registered the game as normal.

I believe the issue may be tied to the network being blocked by something while running in normal windows.

    Thanks.

    I agree with your findings.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop.
(Malwarebytes is free to use as a manual scanner. Payment is only required if you wish to have it run and update automatically which is not necessary for our purposes)

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

    And run Eset online scanner
    http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

    Keep the logs just incase.

    Train,

Both scans reported no infections found. Same issue still occurring. At least we're not giving up.

    Thanks.
