[RESOLVED] Post Error On Thinkpad

I have an IBM Thinkpad 385 CD 2635-2eu running Win 95. I have not used
this computer for a long time. I went to start it up and I am getting 2 short
beeps with 2 error codes 00161 and 00163. The machine displays and
error box and when I open this box it display a box to set time and date.
I set it and it will not start the windows program. I noticed after I set the
time and date it will not change. The time stays were I set it even after
I shut it off and try to reboot. I think I may have a Bios battery problem.
How do you find and change the battery in a thinkpad?

Well my first thought to find the battery would be to open it up.

00161 and 00163 mean the CMOS battery is dead (and because of this) the date/time need to be reset. This also means that your laptop's hard drive will not be recognized until you go into the CMOS Setup, make sure "Auto-detect hard drive" (or similar) is selected, (and while you're in there go ahead and reset the date/time). When you then select Save and Exit, the laptop should boot from the hard drive. Note that until you replace the CMOS backup battery, you'll have to go through this procedure every time you shut the laptop off.

To get into the CMOS/BIOS Setup ... (note that this is from memory, and I don't remember which model Thinkpad it was) ... start with the laptop Off. As you continue to hold down the [F1] key, power up the system.

Thanks for the assistance. The illustrations on this site showed me how to
remove the battery. I had found it but did not know how to change it.
After I changed the battery the computer went into the time set screen
and accepted the changes then started right up.
