That SLI message seems to be a bug in the latest drivers, the message is annoying, but it is harmless. I would definitely try the latest drivers. It might be best to completely uninstall the old ones in Safe Mode first, it sounds as if the drivers may not have spotted the different hardware and that is what is causing the problem.
And problems in Device Manager? Have you checked BIOS settings"
thanks for the reply liam,
pass's dxdiag tests,no prob's in device manager, and what should i check in the bios?i have the latest bios (v1013) and agp 8 support is enabled,is there something else in the bios to check?

Aperture size, and double check the onboard is disabled, under Integrated Peripherals (Or something along those lines), i know it may of affected the old card, but to cut it out of the possibilities anyhoo....
In Safe Mode it uses the plain vanilla VGA drivers only, it only uses the "proper" graphics drivers when you boot into Windows normally. I'm a bit baffled by this one, but it still seems to be a driver issue. The fact that you can play the vids in Safe Mode indicates that it can't be a codec problem, and the fact that it plays games indicates that the hardware of the card is OK. I think I would be inclined to try an over-the-top reinstall of Windows and let all the hardware be redetected from scratch.
"I would be inclined to try an over-the-top reinstall of Windows and let all the hardware be redetected from scratch." do you mean format or reinstall over xp?

I really don't think you need go as far as a format and reinstall. Re-installing over the top should be all that's necessary. Boot up with the XP CD in the drive and let Setup run. Go past the "C" and "R" repair options by presssing Enter just as if you're doing a clean install and you'll eventually get an option to "Repair an existing installation". That's the one you want. If it asks about formatting you've gone wrong, so start over.
You'll get to keep your existing apps & settings, but you need to re-install SP2, Windows Updates & any unsigned drivers afterwards. NOTE: Be aware that you'll lose any protection from Blaster / Sasser type worms. Don't go online without a firewall, whether the built in Windows one or 3rd party.
