HP Printer 5550 prblem

Has anyone any experiance on how to remove the cover from an HP 5550.
The carriage has jammed hard over to the left side.
HP support did not study my email enough to understand my problem. I had 3 bog standard replies. In the end, I did get an unhelpful reply.

HP support say they cannot help. I think they do not no why it should have happened and ignore my request to tell me how to dismantle it, so that I can do the job myself. They do agree that it is a mechanical problem and requires a service.
