    new to video cards

    Hi

I just installed Call of Duty 2 and never gave a second thought to video cards and whether mine was worthy. Obviously it wasn't. Everything installed but when I went to run the game I got these fatal error msgs:

    Error during initialization.
Video card or driver doesn't support dynamic textures.

configure.csv: using CPU configuration 2 GHz 256 MB
    execing configure.cfg
configure.csv: using GPU configuration "GeForce 4 MX"
Measured CPU speed is 2.53 GHz
System memory is 255 MB (capped at 1 GB)
Video card is "NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (Gateway)"
    Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE) supported

    ----- Client Initialization -----
    ----- Initializing Renderer ----
    -------------------------------
    ----- Client Initialization Complete -----
    ----- R_Init -----
    Getting Direct3D 9 interface...
    Pixel shader version is 0.0
    Vertex shader version is 1.1
Video card or driver doesn't support dynamic textures.
    Error during initialization:
Video card or driver doesn't support dynamic textures.

What do I need to do?

    Thanks!

According to http://www.ultimate-gamer.com/cod2/cod2.htm these are the specs:

    Minimum Requirements
    1, 4 GHz Prozessor (Celeron / Duron)
    512 MB RAM
    ATi Radeon 9200 / GeForce 4

    Optimum Requirements
    2, 5 GHz Prozessor (Athlon XP / Pentium 4)
    1 GB RAM
    ATi Radeon 9800XT / GeForce FX 5900

So you graphics card appears to be at the minimum spec.

As you haven't told us any other information related to you mahcine it's hard to say what else maybe sub optimal.

Actually I don't think you have enough ram.

But please post back your specs anyway including the version of DirectX installed.

    Hi Bumbledog, welcome to VDr
Even if your card does meet the minimum specs, it probably won't be worth playing it. It will have such a lousy frame per second output, that you would see one frame, you would then have about 3 seconds to imagine the rest of the story, and then you would see the next frame.
Very often, game makers will make the minimum requirements so low, often far below the the line where the game is actually playable. This, to sell a few more games.
Having said all that, its worth giving it a try anyway, before going out and buying a new video card.
Have you tried updating the driver of the video card?

    Hello,

I have not tried anything yet, just couldn't initialize. I didn't compare my specs with the min. req. when I bought and installed it.

Here is what I have. I haven't had any experience with adding on to what was originally on this computer and am not sure what is best to get.

    Memory (RAM)
    Capacity: 256 MB
    (C Capacity - 74.53 GB

    Used: 27.28 GB

    Free: 47.24 GB

    Video Card

Model: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (Gateway)
    Driver: nv4_mini.sys

Looks like you need to add at least another 256MB of RAM (512MB total). Jumping to 1GB would even be better.

Looks like your video card has a maximum of 64MB of RAM
According to Nix's specs above, the video card needs at least 128MB of RAM with an optimum of 256MB.
