    WORD 2003 odd behaviour

For years now ... when I clicked my Firefox icon on my desktop I got my Home page and when I clicked my WORD icon I got a blank Word screen. All normal. But just now, for no reason that I can fathom, when I click either of these icons I get a "WORD2003 Properties" screen.

What could have done that? (FWIW: I was playing with Notepad and trying to write an Autohotkey script just before this happened). How do I get back to normal?

    Again, thanks much.

Please ignore my previous post. That "odd behaviour" apparently was just a transient; all seems perfectly ok. Sorry.

Sounds like you screwed up the file associations.

    Anything else messed up?

You could try a System Restore back to a date when all was well.

I waved off HELP too soon. My odd behaviour is back.

When I click my Word icon (on my desktop or in my system tray) I get the Microsoft Office Word 2003 Properties screen. And when I click any of my bookmarked sites on my Yahoo home page I get the WORD Save As screen.

Needless to say, I am baffled.

Does the Word icon on the Desktop have a shortcut arrow on it? If so, right-click on it and select Properties. Make sure that the properties are correct. Post a screen capture if unsure.

Did you try a System Restore?

Does the Word shortcut Properties window show the correct information for a Word Shortcut? Post a screen capture if unsure.

What happens if you click Start, Run, Winword and pre Enter?

What happens when you double click on an actual Word doc file?

    1. When I Start\Run I find that I cannot delete the characters that appear (actually a string I recently added as a Autohotkkey hotkey) and so I cannot insert winword.

    2. I don't think I can send a snapshot of the Word2003 Properties screen as I am unable to get to any of my internet sites (when I click Slate, for example, I get the Property screen again.)

I am, of course, sending this post on another pc.
