Norton/MS Messenger pop up every 10 seconds???
My Dad has a Dell Desktop PC with XP Home, P-4 1.8 and Norton Internet Security and I'm trying to help him.
About every few minutes he gets a pop up in the lower right corner that reads: “Norton Internet Security rules automatically created for the program Microsoft Messenger.” This appears when he’s using Outlook Express and the Internet. I tweaked my PC in the registry to disable MS Messenger but didn’t want to tweak his PC unless it gets rid of this message. I know it’s common for an occasional Norton pop up when they update the virus protection…that will pop up on mine maybe once a week. Also, we just checked MS Messenger through Administrative Services and it's disabled.
Any ideas what causes this MS/Norton pop and how to get rid of the pop up? Dell said they will fix it for him for $90.00!!! They also think it's a virus type problem, but he updates and runs Norton's virus every week and today.
Thanks,
Mike

Open Outlook Express and go up to the tools menu and open it. On the general tab which it should default to,see if there is a check mark in 'Automatically log onto Windows Messenger'. If so,remove the check mark...
Stupid question? No such thing!
