    Lock Documents

    Hi
    I have xp home edition
I was wondering, is there any way to
locke the documents folder so the info in there
will stay private, say in the case of
a fault and the comp has to go in
    for repair
    thanks for comments

Not in Home, unless you use 3rd party tools. In Pro you can use the Encrypting File System to do what you want.

You could use something like PGP though, it's avaialbe as both freeware and $ware:

stevo: Here is a thread on locking/encrypting folders. My post covers both encrypting existing folders/files and also using container type encryption programs (which require setting up the folders inside the container.)

A nice standalone file encryption program is dsCrypt http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulif...are/index.html (The second program down at this link.) It can encrypt and decrypt individual files (NOT at the folder level.) It runs very fast and cleans up after itself nicely. It might be the simplest answer for you if you only have a few files to protect.

    thanks

thanks for the ideas and suggestions
but in the end I went here

    http://www.newsoftwares.net/folderlock/

    and downloaded the software.

it looks good, its like having one folder on your
comp that acts as a safe or locker, you can keep addresses in there, or anything a bit private info
    and then lock it up
should have got it years ago
