Resolved [RESOLVED] Windows XP Pro takes 5 minutes to boot .....

Not sure what's going on have 4 hard drives , one with windows XP Pro 32 bit installed another with windows 7 64 bit and 2 for storage

Xp for my older programs that don't work with windows 7 and windows 7 64 bit to work with all my new hardware:

    MSI 890GXM-G65
    AMD PH-II X6 1100T 3.3G 9MB BX125W BLACK AM3
    EAH5770 CUCore/2DI/1GD5 ( X , 2 in crossfire mode )
    Kingston HyperX 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 ( X , 4 Total 16 gigs )
    Coolermaster Silent Pro 1000W Modular

Everything was working good then all of a sudden last week XP started to thake up to 5 minutes to 5 minutes to load. By load I mean it sits there with the xp screen and the bars going from left to right.

Everything else up to that point loads normal. No new programs or hardware have been installed from when it was working normal and when it started taking forever to load.

Is there any way to see what's causing this delay.

From the boot menu , where the choices for safemode and last configuration that worked or norml screen , if i choose last configuration it boots faster , but I have to do tjhis every time.

    Any ideas .....

    thanks in advance , surfacerider

If it boots faster with last known good configuration, then the first thing I would suspect is malware.

Did you check event viewer for errors?

Use Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state when your computer was functioning correctly:

Played around a bit here and it doesn't matter how I restart my computer , safe mode , last known or normal it's the same.

checked event viewer , cleared everythng and restarted my computer , in system there are 9 errors.

    source : atapi , events : 9 and 11 , user : n/a

They say , Event id 9 ......The device\IDE\idePort4 , did not respond within the time out period

Event id 11 ....... The driver detected a controller error on \Gevice\ide\ide Port 4

It looks like you have an issue with the mobo IDE port 4 or that hard drive has issues. If its a data drive - unplug it and see if the boot time gets better.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Ok that narrowed it down .... I have a HDMI cable from my grafics card , to my LG TV ...... unplugged it and my computer starts up normal.

BTW : the last time it was over 20 minutes before it finally got to the desktop screen

so that leaves me with a couple new questions ...... why did everything work normal for 2 or 3 months ( I hooked that up about 3 months ago ) and start acting up last week. When my computer finally boots my desktop displayes on my wide screen tv , so I know it's working.

And why only with XP and not windows 7 , it's not a real biggie , I can leave it unplugged untill I want to watch a movie.

    Thamks everyone , surfacerider
