External monitor of laptop shows only wall paper????
Hello all...
New HP laptop running XPH. Hook standard analog CRT to laptop and only wallpaper shows, no icons. Laptop monitor works fine.
Suggestions????
Thanks!

The only thing that springs to mind is to have a look in Display Properties>Settings. If the external monitor is showing there as a secondary monitor, uncheck "Extend Windows desktop onto this monitor".

Thanks, Nick. Don't find that. What has me puzzled is why would the wallpaper show on the external and not the icons???? Very strange....

Well that's what you get on a secondary monitor of a dual-monitor setup, just the wallpaper. The Taskbar and icons stay on the primary monitor.
Humour me and open an app, and then see if you can drag its window onto the external monitor. If you can, then it's been set as a dual monitor arrangement.
Nick.
