[RESOLVED] Spybot and Adaware Suck My System Resources Away
Using WinMe.
Spybot uses 30% system resources and Ad-Aware uses 19% is that normal ?
Other apps such as Avast! and A-Squared only use 3-4%
Even WMP 9 playing MP3s only used 9%

Then shut off real time protection, unless you surf scum of the earth websites and download toolbars, themes and spyware infested programs.

Nix--Do you mean when you run a scan using those two spyware detectors, or just having them on the PC?
I am not aware that AdAware Personal (free) runs at all until you start a scan, unless you have paid version with Ad-Watch. I cannot comment about SpybotS&D since I never have used it, but once again, unless you use the Immunize function, I am not sure there is anything running until you start a scan.
P.S. Never thought the AdWatch feature was very effective, so you could turn that off.

I start up WinMe and my System rsources are at 90%
I start up Ad-Aware and they drop to about 71% - no scanning just open.
I start up Spybot and they drop to 41% - no scanning just open.
Close them down and resources return to about 85%
If I open either on their own the resources drop by the relevant % with no scan running.
I'm sure it hasn't always been that way, maybe it's related to the issues I've been having here and a fresh install is required.

Nix--My CPU Usage as reported by Task Manager when I am doing little but surfing is about 2-5%. AdAware is not set to open at Start up, so it is not running.
I have AdAware Personal SE (free). No AdWatch.
When I open AdAware there is a very brief surge in CPU Usage as reported by Task Manager to 100%. Then it goes back to 2-4%, until I run an AdAware scan. Then the CPU usage bounces all over the place during the scan--25-100%.
Not sure if this helps.

XP probably handles memory better than WinMe.
Actually from most accounts everything is handled better than WinMe.
Although it's taken 5 years for my system to suddenly start kicking up problems.
