Resolved Another reg error: 1610, configuration data for this product is corrupt[RESOLVED]

Yeah, yeah... i know... Its not the first thread bout this...

Iv seen the thread from Rivyth and Jigger, and tried wut Liam858 answered.

Iv bough a new computer with the game Call Of Duty 2. Because of a bad configuration with my raid (where i tried to install the game), the installation crashed. And now each time i try to install it, it says "Error 1610, The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel.". Iv tried lots of programs, but no good.

I tried wut Liam said too. I found the log and all, but i dont see any errors messages in it, no good too.

    Im using Windows XP.

Anyway, could anyone give me another tips!? thx

Hi Araym, and Welcome to the forums.

First off can you list your system specs in full please, as the error seems to be a windows installer error which could be linked to the installed itself being corrupt/virus problems/insufficient disk space, can you also list the antivirus/spyware/malware/firewall programs you use and the amount of disk space you have free just to rule out those possibilities.

Hah, that was fast.. thx for the welcome.. hehe.

    Ok, Specs time:

    MTB Asus A8N-SLI
    AMD Dual-Core 4400mhz
    1gb Ram DDR400
    2x 7800GTX SLI
    1x Pioneer DVDRW
    1x LG DVDRW
1x WD Raptor 36gb sata (windows)
    2x WD 160bg sata raid0 (programs)
    1x Maxt 120gb
    Creative X-FI/M-Audio 90
    Power Supp. ThermalTake 580W
    Windows XP SP2 DX9.0c

I already installed the game on this computer, before my raid starts to be defective last night, and it worked. So i dont think theres any problems with the cd. I have 23gb of free space on my Raptor and i just format it yesterday, so i dont have any antivirus/spywares/firewall programs installed on it. Im sure bout this point: i dont have any virus/spyware on my drives. I only installed CoD2 and the drivers for my videocards/mtb/SoundCard (no Kazaa/emule/etc) since my format.

If you need any more informations,
    Just ask for it.
    Heh..

    Thx again.

Hmmm, did the failed installation add any files onto your system? if so i would delete them and copy the call of duty 2 files onto your system from the disc, and run the install from your system.

I have found some info on the .msi file being corrupt, and some people have rebuilt the file manually with Wise Installation Package, you may want to try that, although i don't know how to do it personally.

Hahaha.. ok i can play now. Hail to Liam

I tried to copy the COD2 files onto my system like u asked, but it didnt work.
But while browsing the cd, i found that the COD2 files werent compressed into .cab files... So i just lunched the .exe and it worked.

Thx dude, i can sit and test my new system at last hehe.

Not surprising that you have 2, i don't think one would do with dual 7800's.

    Enjoy COD.

Greetings! I am new to this forum and am also having Erro 1610 - Corrupt Data issues whilst installing "Rome-Total War". What is this "Liam's fix for 1610" that is spoken of in another thread?

I'm running XP with SP2, which is part of the problem, I suspect. I say this because I actually played RTW for 9 months until SP2 was installed. After that, I haven't been able to play the game. An uninstall-re-install is where I'm at now...except that I am unable to re-install.

Dell - 2 Ghz CPU, 1 G RAM. Nothing out of the ordinary. Standard Dell machine.

    Update

Well, I tried Liam's reg-cleaning and editing guide and got rid of the '1610 Corrupt Data' problem, but am still unable to install Rome-Total War.

Now, after the 'Publishing Product Information' alert box appears after Disc 3 of installation (yep-12 wasted minutes!), install just crashes to desktop without completion and all traces of this large file-copying are gone.

    Any assistance is appreciated!

Hi and Welcome to Virtual Dr.

I think we should start a club for 1610 errors.

Have you tried putting the files from all three discs on your system, and installing it from there?

    Thanks for the 'welcome', liam!

Yes, I tried copying all 3 discs over to a temp dir on C: and installing from there.

Got exact same "error". I say "error" because there's nothing really displayed...just a crash to desktop.

A large log file (some 19+ megs) was created when I got this error trying to install from a DOS prompt and, while it too says "Installation failed", it also shows no record of what the error actually was.

Now..when I did this install during the 1610 process, I very-clearly saw the file name referenced in your "1610 Fix" process (which worked fine, btw, thanks!!). But nothing here except the typical messages of which files copied, assorted PROPERTIES, etc., with a friendly but useless "Installation failed" message at end.

    Thanks in advance!

You may want to check Event Viewer for any snippets of info related to the failed install, Control Panel|Admin Tools|Event Viewer.

If you don't find any related logs, you may want to try installing the game in Safe Mode, shutdown your system, start it up again, press F8 before the OS loading screen, and select Safe Mode, load Disc 1, if it autoplays run through the typical set up, put in disc 2 etc, then if it gets through the process of installing, reboot, and try and run the game.
