How to identify an Ethernet Controller
Hi,
I recently had a hard drive crash and had to reinstall the OS . This seems to have effectively wiped the hard drive and as a consequence I need to reload my Ethernet controller so I can connect to my LAN. My laptop is 2nd hand and I do not have the original drivers on CD. My laptop is a Compaq EVO n610c, can anyone tell me the manufacturer of my Ethernet controller so can attempt to find the correct drivers? I have tried 3com without success.
Many thanks

I am running Win 200o, and have tried looking at Control Panel > System > Hardware manager, the Ethernet Controller shows up as "not identified". Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Go to the command prompt and type (without the quotes):
"ipconfig /all" and press ENTER
This will give you the information about the hardware you're looking for, as well as a bunch of other useful info.
Various Windows and Linux platforms...

Hi,
Thanks for for the tip, however it did not solve my problem, as the Ethernet Controller is the problem (it has not driver defined) it does not show any information in the "ipconfig" detail.
Short of taking the back off the laptop I am runningout of options! Any other suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks

Go here:
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/downloa...t-home-edition
It's the free version, look under Network, the click/highlight "Windows Network" in Everest's menu on the left hand side of the page.
Then go to the link below and choose which one is yours:
