Free System Analyzer ?
I am trying to check out a friends computer and I would like to have something free that I can load to tell me what CPU they are running and perhaps run some diagnostics;any suggestions concerning this? All I know about their computer at present is they are running Windows 2000.

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

Milton--What CPU they are running? Yes Everest is very good, but some utilities are installed as part of Windows--
Start|Run|type msinfo32|OK
Diagnostics?
Start|Run|type dxdiag|OK.
But what problem are you trying to diagnose? "If it works, don't fix it."

To see which CPU, how much RAM, which version of Windows, and more, try pressing [Winkey]+[Pause/Break].

Thanks for all the help! The system I am going to look at I know nothing about and the owner has no idea what they have as it was a gift. The problem they want me to at least look at is that they have the same DSL connection as I do but their connection/download speeds are about 1/10 th what mine is.I just want to be armed with some diagnostic software before I take a look to see if I can help.Their system has been neglected and there is no telling what I will find!

Normally I find that 1/10 th bit to be caused by a hung up modem.
So, I reach in back of the modem, unplug the power, wait 30 seconds, plug the power back in.[Called power cycle]
When the modem is back up, now test it.
If they have a router, you may need to power cycle it qalso.

She has had some ATT "techs" look at her setup and they cycled the modem and cleared the temp files but the connection is still sluggish.ATT replaced the modem(no router involved) but the connection is the same. The "techs" told her "you just have a slow connection".I would like to make sure that there is not some problem that is not being addressed.Thank you for the help !!!
